Titus named Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament

Stellenbosch FC’s Devin Titus earned the most prestigious individual accolade of his career so far after winning the inaugural Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament award.

After winning the Carling Knockout trophy and claiming a third-place finish in the DStv Premiership, Stellenbosch FC was well-represented at the 2023/24 PSL Awards ceremony where seven nominees from the club featured across 10 different award categories.

Chief among them was 23-year-old Devin Titus who won the inaugural Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament accolade after playing a pivotal role in Stellies claiming a first-ever top-flight trophy.

Titus scored twice in four matches, including goals in the quarter-final and semi-final wins over Polokwane City and Richards Bay, and saw off competition from teammates Iqraam Rayners and Thabo Moloisane to get his hands on the coveted award.

The forward, who has since been named in the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2024 COSAFA Cup, was also nominated for the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Season and DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season gongs, but missed out to Orlando Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng and Patrick Maswanganyi, respectively.

Rayners, meanwhile, was unfortunate to walk away empty-handed after also missing out on the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament,  PSL Players’ Player of the Season, and PSL Footballer of the Season awards, missing out to Tshegofatso Mabasa, Maswanganyi, and Ronwen Williams.

Stellenbosch’s Langelihle Phili, Sage Stephens, Deano van Rooyen, and Steve Barker were also pipped to the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season, DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season, DStv Premiership Defender of the Season, and DStv Premiership Coach of the Season awards, respectively.
