Grobler’s first goal earns Stellies share of the spoils
Bradley Grobler’s first Stellenbosch FC goal earned the team from the Winelands a late draw against Sekhukhune United on Friday evening.
Making his first appearance against his former side since departing at the end of last season, Grobler proved to be the hero for Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium where his late goal earned the Maroons a share of te spoils against Sekhukhune United.
Gavin Hunt’s side made a fast start to the match and could have been two goals up in the opening ten minutes but both Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Raoul Daniels were denied by strong saves from the opposition ‘keeper.
Stellies continued to push forward in search of the elusive goal but half time came and went with the scorers’ untroubled, and it was Babina Noko who ultimately broke the deadlock against the run of play following the restart.
With just over an hour played on the clock, former Stellenbosch striker Lehlogonolo Mojela picked out Bethuel Muzeu who made no mistake in breaking the deadlock.
Muzeu’s goal looked like it might earn the away team all three points on the night, until Bradley Grobler popped up at the death to convert a trademark poacher’s finish and salvage a point for Stellenbosch.
Better one than none, as Stellies look to build up to their next match, which will see them in action again on 19 September when the team travels to Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit for a Betway Premiership fixture against Kruger United.
