Stellies retain Engen Knockout Challenge crown

Football 2024 Engen Knockout Challenge Day 3 Erica Park Cape Town

Stellenbosch FC have been crowned Engen Knockout Challenge champions for the second season in a row after recording a dramatic 0-0 (4-2) penalty shootout win over Cape Town City.

The Young Maroons successfully defended their 2024 Engen Knockout Challenge Western Cape crown after defeating Cape Town City in the final played at Erica Park on Sunday evening.

Having overcome Rebels FC and Ubuntu FC in the quarter-final and semi-final stages respectively, Stellies’ third match of the day saw them take on their cross-town rivals to determine the winner of this year’s competition.


A hard-fought battle ensued but there was no separating the two sides in regulation time, and it was the team from the Cape Winelands who held their nerve to claim victory in the resultant penalty shootout.

Head coach Jean-Pierre Farrugia was named Coach of the Tournament after once again leading the U-18 team to glory, while Zaydee Marang and Nathan Langeveldt were named Striker of the Tournament and Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
