Following the match, head coach Steve Barker was quick to dedicate the milestone to late Stellies defender Oshwin Andries, who wore the club’s No. 25 jersey prior to his untimely death at the age of 19 in February last year.

“Twenty-five is a special number and we are all very mindful of the significance of the number 25 jersey, so this was a special one and we capped it off with another special performance,” Barker said.

“…Oshwin’s shirt is hanging on the wall in our team meeting room and everyone knows the number, so the win was a small reference to the number 25 which is important at our club.

“We thought let’s try and get that 25-match unbeaten run, let’s try and get a big victory at home on the 25th game, and it turned out to be that way, which is very special for us.”

Stellenbosch FC’s No. 25 jersey was posthumously retired to honour Andries who made 11 senior appearances across all competitions after graduating from the club’s academy structures.
