Stellies leaving no stone unturned in quest for Nedbank Cup final
Stellenbosch FC will be leaving no stone unturned in their quest to reach a second cup final this season when they welcome Mamelodi Sundowns to Danie Craven Stadium.
Stellenbosch have been pitted against Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final of this year’s Nedbank Cup competition in a fixture that promises to be an all-action affair at the Danie Craven Stadium.
“Playing against them is always a tough encounter but also a very exciting one at the same time,” Head coach Steve Barker said. “They are currently the benchmark of South African football and one of the best teams on the continent.
“It’s always a challenge against them but if we could get to a second final this season it would be a massive achievement for us, so we’ll definitely be up for that challenge.”

The clash, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 5 May, will be played at Danie Craven Stadium where an expectant crowd will be hoping to see the Maroons reach a second cup final this season.
“First of all, we’re delighted that we got the home draw and that we will be hosting Sundowns at the Danie Craven Stadium,” Barker added.
“It will be massive to play the match in Stellenbosch. It’s a big game to look forward to for the fans and hopefully, we can fill the ground. It would be great to get our supporters out in numbers and have them behind the team.
“We’ll need to play really well to overcome a team like Sundowns but we’ll also need the support of the 12th man behind us.”
Stellenbosch and Sundowns previously played in the quarter-final of last season’s competition, where Barker’s troops emerged 2-1 winners, and the coach admits that he is hoping to achieve a repeat result this time around.
“It was a great game for us to get into last season’s semi-final,” he concluded.
“We ultimately lost out to Sekhukhune United on penalties, but that pain drove us to make sure that when we get into semi-finals again we don’t leave any stones unturned in our quest to make finals.

“We just need to have the belief and confidence that we can do it again.”
