A brace from Chumani Butsaka earned Stellenbosch FC all three points against Orbit College in the Club’s last home match of the 2025-26 season.

Stellenbosch FC signed off at Danie Craven Stadium for the season in impressive fashion after recording a 2-0 win over Orbit College on Saturday, with Chumani Butsaka scoring both goals either side of half-time.

The result saw Stellies climb to ninth in the Betway Premiership standings ahead of next weekend’s season finale against Marumo Gallants, and kept alive the Club’s slim chances of qualifying for next term’s MTN8 competition.

“It was a slow game, and I don’t think we created enough chances, although we had dominance, and it took a long time for us to get our second goal, which would have made it safer, but all in all, it’s three points,” Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt said.

“Over the last few weeks, we buggered it up a bit because we could have had a much better chance of making the top eight, but it’s going to be difficult now. But, we’ve still got a chance, and we’re happy to be where we are from where we were, to have 36 points…”

“We’ve had our chances over the last two weeks. We lost 1-0 to Polokwane City and then again to Pirates, who, even though they’re a good side, we shouldn’t have lost that game. Then we drew against Durban City last week. We weren’t very good on the night, but I still thought we could have won.

“We just needed a point here and a point there over the last couple of weeks to get ourselves in a much better position, but listen, we had 12 points at the turn of the year, so let’s build from that and be positive.”

Stellies sit three points behind Durban City in the race for that top eight spot with a four-goal goal difference deficit to overcome, but Hunt insists that getting a positive result will be the first priority on the night.

“Let’s try to win the game, and then whatever happens from there, happens,” he concluded. “We can’t control anything else. I’ve had many of these last-day situations, so we just have to try to control things. It won’t be easy against Marumo in Bloemfontein, but let’s try to win the game, and then whatever happens, happens.”
