Stellenbosch FC captain Sage Stephens is hoping to build on the last round’s win over Marumo Gallants when the Maroons take on Golden Arrows on Wednesday.

Stephens & Co. have travelled to Durban this week where they are set to take on Arrows in a highly anticipated Betway Premiership encounter at King Zwelithini Stadium.

Stellies head into the clash on the back of an impressive 3-1 win over Marumo Gallants earlier this month which saw the team from the Winelands climb back into the top half of the league standings.

“Preparations have been very good. We’ve had a lot of time to prepare between the two games, so the coaches have put us through our paces,” Stephens said ahead of the match.

“The intensity has been very high and the planning for the game has been superb. I think we are ready for the game on Wednesday and, coming off a positive result against Gallants, the camp is positive.”

Following an opening day defeat to AmaZulu, Stellies have picked up four points from their last two matches after delivering two free-scoring displays against Polokwane City and Gallants.

“We’ve been working very hard, from the pre-season until now, and I think it shows in our performances,” Stephens added.

“We haven’t picked up as many points as we would have liked, but scoring six goals in our last two games shows the work that is going on behind the scenes.

“The guys up front are doing well, so we just need to balance that a bit at the back. But it’s a work in progress, and those goals show the level of confidence that the team has at the moment.

“Going away to Polokwane City, not many teams score three goals there so we were a bit disappointed not to get maximum points, but we backed it up with another three goals against Gallants and played very well.

“There are a few tweaks that are needed, and maybe some game management, but with the time we’ve had to prepare, we’ve worked on those few issues and we’re looking forward to a good game on Wednesday.”

The Betway Premiership fixture between Stellenbosch FC and Lamontville Golden Arrows is scheduled to kick off at 19h30 on Wednesday 26 August 2026. The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport OTT2.
