Pre-match stats: Stellenbosch FC vs Durban City

Football betway premiership 2025/26 stellenbosch fc v durban city danie craven stadium stellenbosch

The Betway Premiership encounter between Stellenbosch FC and Durban City will be only the second meeting between the two sides across all competitions.

The first meeting took place earlier this season when the teams played out a goalless Betway Premiership draw at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, with Stellies coach Gavin Hunt on the opposite bench at the time.

Friday’s encounter against Durban City will be Hunt’s 20th match in charge of Stellenbosch FC across all competitions since being appointed as the Club’s head coach in December last year.

Earlier this week, in the mid-week match against Orlando Pirates, Genino Palace made his 100th appearance for Stellenbosch across all competitions. He is the 13th player to reach the milestone for the Club.

In the same fixture, Omega Mdaka made his 50th outing for the Club and in the process became the seventh youngest player to bring up a half-century of appearances for the Maroons (aged 22 years, 8 months and 7 days).

Mdaka will, however, be absent for Friday’s encounter against Durban City after picking up a one-match suspension during the match against the Buccaneers due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

The Durbanites will also be without the services of on-loan Stellenbosch FC midfielder Kyle Jurgens, who is ineligible to feature in the tie. He recently played a key role in City’s Nedbank Cup final triumph over TS Galaxy.

Meanwhile, Liam De Kock, who joined Durban City from Stellenbosch at the start of the season, will make his first appearance against his former side if he features. He was an unused substitute in the reverse fixture.

Vuyolwethu Andrieas became the 162nd player to represent Stellenbosch when he made his debut against Pirates on Tuesday. He could be in line to make his first senior start for the Club on Friday evening.

Langelihle Phili is one goal away from scoring 10 goals for the season. He would become only the fourth player to reach double figures for the Club in a single campaign – after Iqraam Rayners (four times), Devin Titus (twice), and Junior Mendieta.
