Coach Gavin Hunt addressed the media on Friday ahead of his side’s Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final clash against AmaZulu this weekend.

Having overcome Durban City in the Round of 16 last month, Stellenbosch FC were rewarded with a home quarter-final against AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout Cup.

“The most important thing, I think, is that we’ve got a home draw and that will be important for us,” Hunt said. “Not that it makes it any easier, especially after last week’s performance [against Chippa United], but obviously we want to give a good performance and try and get through to the next round.

“It won’t be easy. We’re playing against a team that I think has won six or seven matches in a row now, so they’re in good form. But we really need to put things right. We want to make our supporters happy. Last week they came out in numbers and really supported us and we let them down. So hopefully we can put it right this week.

“I think that’s important and be up for the game and then the result take care of itself then. So yeah, we’re looking forward to it.”

Ahead of the match, Hunt was also complimentary of AmaZulu, who have enjoyed an impressive start to the season across both the league and cup competitions.

“Results-wise, it’s been brilliant for them,” he said. “But I think where they’ve been really good, or maybe fortunate, is that they’ve kept their starting XI pretty consistent. I don’t think they’ve changed their team much.

“They haven’t really had many players coming and going, and they’ve kept the same sort of players who played most of their games, even from last season. But obviously they’ve done well and you’ve got to give them credit for sticking to what they believe in. The results show.

“They’re a side in good form and we obviously have to accept it, appreciate that and just get on with it. But we certainly need to get our side going. I still feel we haven’t even started the season yet. It just feels like we haven’t got there yet, so I think it’s a good game for us to get ourselves going again.”
