Stellenbosch FC recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in the Betway Premiership this season after recording a 1-0 victory over AmaZulu on Friday evening.

Following a mid-week win over Kaizer Chiefs in Johannesburg, Stellenbosch returned home to Danie Craven Stadium on Friday where they played host to AmaZulu.

Stellies made a fast start to the match and threatened early on through chances from Devin Titus and Langelihle Phili, before finally finding the back of the net through Ibraheem Jabaar.

With just over half an hour played, the former Nigeria youth international pinched the ball off Luyolo Slatsha in midfield before driving into the opposition box, where he made no mistake in opening the scoring.

Jabaar had a chance to double the lead in the second half after Titus was adjudged to have been fouled by Johnson, but blazed his resultant spot-kick over the crossbar.

Fortunately, that miss ultimately had no impact on the result as Gavin Hunt’s charges held on to claim all three points and climb to ninth in the Betway Premiership standings, just two points shy of the top eight.

The Maroons will be in action again on Tuesday, 3 March, when they take on Siwelele FC at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. That match kicks off at 19h30 and will be broadcast on SuperSport OTT 2.

Stellenbosch FC starting XI: Stephens, Enyinnaya, Stanic, Lebusa, Tiwani, Mthiyane, Jabaar, Butsaka (76′ Mokobodi), Titus, Phili (89′ Mdaka) & Makhubu (84′ Cupido)
