Stellenbosch FC’s Ashley Cupido, Mthetheleli Mthiyane, and Thabo Moloisane have been named in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad for the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

On Monday, South Africa’s national team coach, Hugo Broos, announced his preliminary 54-man squad for the upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament that is set to commence in Morocco next month.

Stellenbosch FC have three representatives in the provisional selection who will all be vying for a spot at the AFCON, including defender Thabo Moloisane, midfielder Mtehtheleli Mthiyane, and striker Ashley Cupido.

Moloisane and Cupido have both previously worn the famous gold and green jersey, with the former boasting five caps to his name and the latter having scored once in his two appearances, while Mthiyane could be called up for the first time.

Elsewhere, Stellies academy graduate Tylon Smith (now of Queens Park Rangers in England) also features for the first time after being named as a runner-up for the 2025 CAF Young Player of the Year award earlier this month.

He is one of four former Stellenbosch players in the squad alongside Fawaaz Basadien (Mamelodi Sundowns), Luke Le Roux (Portsmouth), and Iqraam Rayners (Mamelodi Sundowns).

The 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations is set to take place between 21 December 2025 and 18 January 2026. South Africa’s final 23-man squad for the competition will be announced in the coming days.
