A brace from Sinoxolo Kwayiba helped Stellenbosch FC to a 2-0 Carling Knockout Cup win over Durban City on Wednesday evening.

The Maroons advanced to the quarter-final of the Carling Knockout Cup for the third season in a row after recording a 2-0 win over Durban City at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday, courtesy of two late goals from striker Sinoxolo Kwayiba.

Stellenbosch and Durban City had played out goalless draws in all three of their previous meetings and it seemed as though the match was headed in the same direction when half-time arrived with the scorers once again untroubled.

The team from the Winelands had other plans, though, and finally found the breakthrough in the 84th minute when Kwayiba fired home a first-time finish after being picked out by substitute Lateef Kazeem’s pinpoint delivery.

Rocked by the late goal, City threw everything forward in search of an equaliser and sent their ‘keeper up, which afforded Kwayiba the chance to put the finishing touches on a clinical counter-attack.

Once again, it was Kazeem who played the decisive ball to find his striker, who made no mistake in putting the ball into the back of an empty net and sending Stellenbosch through the last eight.
