Record attendance for the Western Cape as Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs draw 45,451 fans
Stellenbosch FC’s Carling Knockout Round of 16 victory over Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday drew a record crowd of 45,451 spectators to DHL Stadium, a new attendance benchmark for a domestic club football match at the iconic venue and in the Western Cape as a whole.

Supporters from across Stellenbosch, Cape Town, and beyond turned out in their numbers for the near-sell-out encounter to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the scenes witnessed during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
On the field, the record-breaking crowd was treated to a spectacle of football as Stellies and the Amakhosi took the match all the way to a penalty shootout, where the home side emerged victorious to advance to the quarter-finals.
