Stellies quartet help SA qualify for U-20 World Cup
The South African national U-20 has qualified for this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup after reaching the semi-final stage of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
South Africa continued to impress at the U-20 AFCON in Egypt where they defeated DR Congo on Monday evening to reach the semi-final stage of the continental competition. In doing so, the Amajimbos also qualified for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is set to take place in Chile in September.

Among those behind the incredible achievement is the Stellenbosch FC quartet of Jamestown-born Tylon Smith, Langelihle Phili, Faiz Abrahams, as well as youth goalkeeper coach, Morne Crumpton.
Smith, a centre-back, has started all five of South Africa’s matches at the tournament so far, including a Man of the Match performance in the 4-1 Group A win over Sierra Leone, while Abrahams and Phili have both been used to good effect in a rotated attacking set-up.

The South Africa U-20s will be in action again on Thursday, 15 May, when they take on Nigeria in the semi-finals at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismaila, looking to reach the final of the competition for the first time since 1997.
