Steve Barker is drawing confidence from the recent Nedbank Cup Round of 16 win over Polokwane City ahead of the two sides meeting again in the league on Friday evening.

For the second time this month, Stellenbosch FC will host Polokwane City at Danie Craven Stadium when the two sides go head-to-head in a Betway Premiership encounter.

Polokwane City are currently fourth in the log standings, three points ahead of the hosts, but Stellies coach Steve Barker is hoping his side will draw inspiration from the fact that his side recently defeated Rise and Shine in a 2-0 Nedbank Cup Round of 16 triumph.

“It has to give us confidence and belief but it’s important that no complacency creeps in because they’ve done really well in the league,” Barker said. “They’re above us in the standings and so have shown themselves to be a decent and effective team.

“There will be confidence from our previous victory over them but this is also a different game and a different opportunity for us, so it’s important that we take that opportunity. ”

He added: “I’m certain that they will come with a different mentality and approach than last time so we have to be ready for that, but at the same time, we’ve got to continue doing the good things we’ve been doing of late and play with the right tactical awareness and discipline.”
