Andre de Jong believes Stellenbosch FC’s recent CAF form should serve as a confidence booster for the squad as they prepare for Wednesday’s crucial Betway Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

Having recorded a 2-0 Group B win over CD Lunda Sul in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday, Stellenbosch FC have turned their attention to a mid-week league encounter against Kaizer Chiefs.

“The mood in camp is nice and positive,” De Jong said. “We’ve been together in Gauteng since Saturday and I think everyone is in a good space and looking forward to capping off the week with a good result against Kaizer Chiefs.

“It’s a massively important match for us, primarily because of the congestion around us in the league table and also because this will be our only league match in January because of our CAF commitments, so we need to get maximum points.”

De Jong played an instrumental role in the recent win over Lunda Sul by scoring both goals on the night and the New Zealand international hopes the team can carry that form into the domestic clash against the Amakhosi.

“Personally it was very nice to have contributed with a couple of goals against Lunda Sul, but more importantly to get the three points in the group that has set us up nicely for the [next CAF] game on Sunday against Stade Malien,” he added.

“Our focus has shifted to Wednesday’s match against Kaizer Chiefs first though, and I think we’ve been buoyed by a big result from the weekend and hopefully we can carry our recent CAF form into the league.”

The Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC is scheduled to kick off at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, 8 January 2025 at 19h30, and will be broadcast live on SuperSport 206.
