Barker: It was a good point away from home
Stellenbosch FC head coach has described the outcome of Saturday’s clash against SuperSport United as a fair result after sharing the spoils in Pretoria.
In the club’s final match of 2024, Stellenbosch FC were held to a 1-1 draw by SuperSport United at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.
Jayden Adams gave Stellies an early lead when he headed home Fawaaz Basadien’s corner-kick before Matsatsantsa equalised shortly after through Tashreeq Morris.

“It was an evenly-matched game and I think overall it was probably a fair result,” Barker said after the match.
“We started well with the early leave but there was a good response from SuperSport United who got themselves back into the game.
“Thereafter, the game ebbed and flowed. It sometimes looked like they were on top of us, and other times we looked as though we might get something.
“It was always going to come down to a half-chance here or there that gets taken in the second half [which never materliased] but I think it was two teams that tried to impose the way they want to play.
“SuperSport do things really well and it showed in the goal they scored, which I was a bit disappointed in that we conceded that way knowing the danger.
“We also tried to impose ourselves in the game by building up and trying to find pockets of space and get in behind, but they are a difficult team to score against, so a fair result in the end.”

“…It’s a good point away from home,” he added. “It’s been a good year for us in 2024. This was our 42nd game of the year so we’ve played a lot of football.
“It’s now time to get back home, get the legs rested a bit, and look forward to a big 2025.”
