Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker is taking nothing for granted ahead of the Club’s CAF Confederation Cup First Preliminary Round second leg encounter against Nsingizini Hotspurs.

The team from the Cape Winelands head into Saturday’s continental clash with a strong advantage after recording a 3-0 win over their opponents from Eswatini during last weekend’s first-leg encounter in Durban.

Despite this, head coach Steve Barker is expecting a tough challenge when the two sides return to Kwa-Zulu Natal this weekend to determine who advances to the next round of the competition.

“It’s obviously a bit of a peculiar situation playing the same team twice in the same stadium, and with both teams having played both games away from home, so it’s quite unique,” Barker said.

“Fortunately, we had a good first leg and got a good lead in terms of the current scoreline, but we are very mindful that these games are not over until they are over.

“It’s basically only one half that has been played so we have to go in with the right mentality and attitude.

“We have ambitions to do well on the continent so these are the types of situations you need to manage well. You need to be able to overcome them and not become complacent by believing the job is done.

“I’m expecting a very professional performance from the team. The opposition will come out really strong, they have nothing to lose and have to take the game to us to try get back into the tie, so we have to be prepared for that.

“At the same time, if we do get our opportunities, and score a fourth goal, that would obviously make it more difficult for them.

“But we are anticipating a much different time of match against them, especially compared to the first 45 minutes last weekend.”
