Sanele Barns has revealed ambitions of winning silverware after signing for Stellenbosch FC.

Following an impressive domestic season with Richards Bay during the 2023/24 season, in which he was nominated for the DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season award, Sanele Barns has completed a transfer down the coast to Stellenbosch.

Speaking following his move, the 27-year-old expressed his excitement at completing his move and revealed that the club’s ability to compete across all competitions was a major factor in his decision to join the Maroon Army.

“I’m very excited to be here because Stellenbosch is a very good team, with very good players and a very good coach,” Barns said.

“Everyone around here has been very welcoming so one has to be happy to be here, and I’m very excited to start my journey at Stellenbosch FC.

“You have to look at many things when joining a new team. You have to look if they are competitive, and I checked and double-checked, and Stellenbosch are competing for all of the silverware. My decision to join the club was based on that.”

Barns, whose competitive spirit was evident from day one, also expressed his desire to help the club win even more silverware in the coming season, with a particular eye on the cup and continental competitions.

“I’m hoping to achieve many things here,” he added. “First of all, we have the [MTN 8] cup competition starting soon, as well as the CAF Confederation Cup, and my objective is to win all of these trophies.

“The fans can expect very good football, and a person and player who is a very dedicated team player, and obviously I hope that I can contribute massively towards the team’s success.”
