New additions to Stellenbosch FC backroom staff
Stellenbosch FC has recently welcomed a number of new additions to the club’s backroom staff ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Looking to build on a record-breaking 2023/24 season, and with an eye on the club’s first-ever campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, Stellenbosch Football Club has bolstered the ranks of its backroom staff.
Rodet Yila, who previously served at Cape Town Spurs and the Sports Science Institute, has joined the High Performance department where he has been appointed as a first-team strength and conditioning coach.

He is joined by technical analyst Jean Du Plessis who, after assisting the club last season, has been appointed on a permanent basis as a replacement for the outgoing Devon O’Brien.
Elsewhere, Hilda du Toit and Solomon Akumba have become the latest products of a research pathway created between Stellenbosch University and Stellenbosch Football Club to land fixed roles at the club.
Du Toit, a junior sports scientist, and Akumba, a strength and conditioning coach, will assist Stellies’ youth and reserve teams moving forward, while also contributing towards the wider knowledge pool
There has also been a valuable addition to the club’s medical department which has welcomed Jason Matter on board as the new reserve team physiotherapist.
