Mashego targeting maximum points on return to Durban

Terrence Mashego is looking forward to the challenge of facing his former side when Stellenbosch FC takes on Durban City on Tuesday evening.

The Maroons have travelled to Durban where they are set to take on Durban City in a highly anticipated mid-week Betway Premiership encounter.

“Preparations have gone very well. We have prepared well as a team and we know that we are playing against a good side,” Mashego said ahead of the match.

“Durban City is a strong team, and they did well last season, so we understand that it’s going to be a tough game, but we are looking forward to the challenge.”

The fixture will see the 30-year-old return to his former stomping ground for the first time after he enjoyed a successful loan spell with City during the 2025-26 season.

“I’m obviously looking forward to the match too because I’m familiar with the city, the stadium, and the people and players at Durban City,” Mashego added.

“It’s special to be back, but once the game starts, my focus is fully on Stellenbosch and making sure that, as a team, we get maximum points.

“It’s very important for us to try do that, especially after coming from a game in which we dropped points. We felt like we should have won the last game [against Golden Arrows], so it’s important for us to bounce back.

“It’s still early in the season, but it’s important to get as many points as possible to build the momentum and confidence. This is an unpredictable league, so you want to lay a solid foundation and put yourself in a good position as early as possible.”

The Betway Premiership match between Stellenbosch FC and Durban City is scheduled to kick off at 19h30 at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
