Barker excited for Chiefs challenge at FNB Stadium
Steve Barker has revealed that he is looking forward to taking on Kaizer Chiefs on their own stomping ground when the two sides meet in the DStv Premiership.
Unbeaten in their last 18 matches across all competitions, Stellenbosch FC have travelled to Johannesburg where the club will take on Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs in a highly-anticipated league encounter on Tuesday evening.
Speaking ahead of the match, Stellies head coach Steve Barker shared his excitement at facing the challenge of the Amakhosi at the vaunted FNB Stadium and highlighted the importance of maintaining the team’s current run of form.

“It’s always a fantastic occasion for us to play against Kaizer Chiefs, especially at their home ground,” Barker said. “It’s an iconic stadium that has hosted a FIFA World Cup final, so it’s always a great occasion.
“Their supporter base is also massive so games against them are always exciting, It’s a good opportunity for our players to be playing against a club of their stature, so we are looking forward to that as well.

“We’ve been on a really good streak of late and shown some good form with our performances, but the key to success is consistently showing up at that level week in and week out, and match-to-match.
“The message is out to the players to show that level of consistency in their performance, and to have the desire to keep competing and doing well at the highest level.

“We’ve set our ambitions high for the season and, while we know there is a long way to go and that it won’t be easy, we have to show that desire and belief, starting with a performance on the field that will allow us to get maximum points tonight.”
Tuesday’s match is set to kick off at 19h30 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport PSL 202.
