Rayners features as Bafana Bafana held to draw by Andorra
Iqraam Rayners made a return to international football after featuring in South Africa’s FIFA Series friendly draw against Andorra.
Having last appeared for Bafana Bafana at last year’s COSAFA Cup tournament, Stellenbosch FC striker Iqraam Rayners returned to the international fold on Thursday evening when he appeared as a late substitute during the country’s 1-1 FIFA Series draw against Andorra in Algeria.
The 28-year-old, winning his sixth cap for South Africa, entered the field of play as an 80th-minute replacement for Khanyisa Mayo as coach Hugo Broos sought a match-winning goal, but ultimately had too little time to make a decisive impact.
Rayners and the rest of the men’s national team will be in action again on Tuesday, 26 March when they take on hosts Algeria at the Stade Nelson Mandela in their second friendly of the newly-incorporated series.
