Football 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations Finals Cape Verde V South Africa Charles Konan Stadium Yamoussoukro Cote Divoire

Jayden Adams helped South Africa reach the semi-final of the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations following a penalty shootout win over Cape Verde on Saturday evening.

Bafana Bafana advanced to the final four of the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 24 years after recording a famous 0-0 (2-1) penalty shootout win over Cape Verde at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.

Adams was introduced at the start of extra-time after the match ended goalless in regulation time and looked composed in midfield as South Africa saw out the additional 30 minutes of play before emerging victorious from the ensuing penalty shootout.

The 22-year-old’s outing was his second appearance at this year’s competition after he previously made a brief cameo during the convincing 4-0 Group Stage win over neighbours Namibia last month.

He and South Africa will be in action again on Wednesday, 7 February when they take on Nigeria, who overcame Angola in one of the week’s other quarter-finals, to determine which nation will get to compete for the title of being African champions.

Adams has won five official caps for Bafana Bafana to date, including the two he earned at the ongoing AFCON and three more from South Africa’s 2022 COSAFA Cup campaign on home soil.
