Stellenbosch FC’s U-16 team have been crowned 2023 Kapstadt Cup champions following victory over Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.

Just over a week after Stellenbosch FC won the U-18 Engen Champ of Champs competition in Johannesburg, another trophy has been added to the Academy’s cabinet after the club’s U-16 side charged to victory at the 2023 FC Kapstadt competition.

Coach Thulani Mapoyi’s troops overcame the challenge of Voota FC and Belville City in the group stage, and AmaZulu in the semi-finals, before his Young Maroons emerged victorious in Sunday’s final after recording a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nathan Langeveldt was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament while Clayton Leonard walked away with the Golden Boot award as top goalscorer in his age-group.

Earlier in the day, Stellies’ U-14 team fell to KZN Academy in the semi-finals following a penalty shootout defeat, while the U-12s were eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Cape Town Spurs on Saturday morning.
