Stellies trio among winners at PSL awards ceremony
Stellenbosch FC’s Iqraam Rayners, Olwethu Makhanya, and Mervin Boji were among the award winners at last night’s PSL awards ceremony.
Stellenbosch was well represented at the 2022/23 PSL awards ceremony on Sunday evening where three players walked away with prizes following impressive individual and collective campaigns, in which the club ended sixth in the DStv Premiership and as semi-finalists in the Nedbank Cup.
Striker Iqraam Rayners, who returned to the Winelands from SuperSport United during the January transfer window, was named as the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament after recording a tournament-high six goals and one assist in just four appearances in the competition this season.
He was joined on the stage by 19-year-old defender Olwethu Makhanya who was named as the Nedbank Cup’s Most Promising Player following his impressive displays at the back for Stellies, beating teammate and fellow nominee Devin Titus to the prestigious award.
There was also cause for celebration for young striker Mervin Boji who claimed the DStv Diski Challenge Top Goalscorer award after scoring an impressive 18 goals in the reserve league this season, a tally which included a remarkable five-goal haul in the 5-2 win over Kaizer Chiefs last month.
