Kwayiba promises more goals after opening Stellies account
Sinoxolo Kwayiba has promised the Stellenbosch FC fans more goals after opening his account for the Club on Tuesday.
Having recently joined from Chippa United at the start of the season, Kwayiba netted his first goal for Stellenbosch FC when he scored his side’s opener in the 3-3 Betway Premiership draw against Polokwane City.
The team from Polokwane had taken an early lead in the match before Kwayiba responded in the 23rd minute, reacting sharpest to a dangerous set-piece from Siviwe Nkwali to level the score.
“Looking back at the game against Polokwane City, it wasn’t easy at all,” he reflected. “It was a physical game, against a tough opponent, but we were well prepared for it and showed good fighting spirit to come out with a point away from home.
“I am also happy that I was able to get my first goal in the Stellies jersey. As a striker, you want to score as many goals as you can, so I always just keep working hard to make sure that if I get a chance, I am able to take it.
“Thanks must also go to my teammates for always supporting me, and I believe there is more to come. This is just the beginning of many more to come.”
In addition to Kwayiba’s milestone, development product Raoul Daniels also scored his first goal for the Club with a late equaliser that earned Stellies a share of the spoils.
Daniels’ goal (originally awarded to Ashley Du Preez, who has since confirmed he made no contact) came from the by-line when the young winger whipped a dangerous delivery into the box that found its way past City ‘keeper Lindokuhle Mathebula.
Stellenbosch FC will be in action again on Friday evening when the Club hosts Marumo Gallants at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. Kick off for the match is scheduled for 19h30.
