Jade Jones has expressed her pride after scoring Stellenbosch FC’s first-ever goal in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

Stellenbosch FC Ladies forward Jade Jones wrote her name into the history books last weekend when she scored the Club’s first-ever Hollywoodbets Super League goal during the clash against Copperbelts FC.

“It’s a big honour for me to play for Stellenbosch FC, and it’s an exciting feeling to have scored the Club’s first ever goal in the Hollywoodbets Super League,” Jones said.

“This is my first time playing at the highest level, and it is an important thing for me as an individual and for us as a team to grow and improve as players. It’s also an amazing experience to feature in the Super League and represent the town as the Ladies of Stellenbosch.”

Jones’ goal at the weekend was not enough to prevent Stellies from suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat in Polokwane, but she remains optimistic that the team will enjoy a successful season in what is the Club’s maiden top-flight campaign.

“We are a unit that supports each other through every struggle,” she said. “It is hard playing in this league, and for most of us, it’s our first time, but we are working hard and giving our all to achieve our goals.

“It can still be a good season for us, even if we haven’t always got the results we’ve wanted so far. We are Stellies, we just have to keep putting in the work and believe that we can do this.”

The Stellenbosch FC Ladies will be in action again this coming Sunday when they take on Diepkloof Ladies at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium. The fixture is scheduled to kick off at 12h30 and the match will be broadcast live on SABC+.
