Club statement: Apology to DHL Stadium
Stellenbosch, 11 February 2026 – Stellenbosch FC wishes to extend an unreserved apology to the board of DHL Stadium for any unintended distress caused by remarks made during a recent press conference in response to questions surrounding the condition of the playing surface at the venue.
The Club was aware that the pitch is currently in a maintenance phase and is grateful that, despite this, DHL Stadium has been able to accommodate the Club’s fixture schedule amid a lack of viable alternative venues for high-profile matches, including the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup tie against Singida Black Stars.
As the Western Cape’s sole top-flight representative and having brought continental football back to Cape Town for the first time since 2022, Stellenbosch FC is grateful for the support of DHL Stadium, a legacy arena of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and values the importance that a strong relationship holds in helping the sport grow in the region.
The Club was particularly proud to have welcomed 45 451 supporters to the venue for a recent Carling Knockout match against Kaizer Chiefs in October, which was a record attendance for a domestic football match in the Western Cape, and which stands as testament to what can be achieved through effective collaboration.
