Gavin Hunt is looking forward to returning to Danie Craven Stadium ahead of Stellenbosch FC’s Betway Premiership clash against Magesi FC.

Following renovations to the venue, Stellenbosch FC will return to Danie Craven Stadium for the first time since September last year when they host Magesi in a league encounter on Wednesday evening.

For Stellies coach Gavin Hunt, the occasion will be his first time in the home dugout at the Club’s vaunted arena since his appointment late last year, and he revealed that he was looking forward to finally turning out in front of the Maroon Army.

“It’s important to be back home, and we are very happy to be back in front of our home supporters,” Hunt said. “It will be my first game here as well, so I am really excited and looking forward to it.”

Heading into the match, just four points separate last-placed Magesi from 12th-placed Stellenbosch, adding an extra degree of impetus to Wednesday’s encounter.

“Because of where we are, and where they are in the league, it’s important for us to try to get a good result and get away from where we are,” Hunt added.

“It won’t be easy because we have a few games to catch up, we’re three games behind everyone now, and that doesn’t mean guaranteed points. At home, we have to make it count, be on the front foot, and play with good energy and purpose.

“Domestically, we’ve been okay, and won both games since I arrived. Obviously, our form in Africa wasn’t good, but that was a very experimental situation for me to play everybody, but now we need to knuckle down and try to get a consistent team out there.

“That’s going to be the most important thing, and then we can take it from there.”

The match will be Stellenbosch’s second of five fixtures within 12 days, but the coach believes the schedule could help his side find rhythm and consistency in the second half of the season.

“I think it’s important for players not to have too many breaks in between games, even a week is too long. You need some mid-week games, and it’s good for us,” he concluded.

“I’ve always said, good or bad, when you lose you want to play and when you win you want to play, so let’s get playing.”

The Betway Premiership fixture between Stellenbosch FC and Magesi FC is set to kick off at 19h30 on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 at Danie Craven Stadium. Tickets are on sale for R40 and the match will be broadcast live on SuperSport OTT2.
