Stellenbosch FC will end the 2025 calendar year with a Betway Premiership encounter against Polokwane City. Here’s what coach Steve Barker had to say ahead of the match.

Stellenbosch will play their 52nd and final match of 2025 on Wednesday evening when they welcome Polokwane City to Athlone Stadium in Cape Town for a league encounter.

“Ending the year with a positive result is massively important to us,” Stellies head coach Steve Barker said on the eve of the clash.

“Looking at the log table, it’s an area we want to get away from, and I’ve always said that getting back-to-back wins in the league is really important. After beating Orbit College, it’s important for us at home to follow that up with another three points against Polokwane City.

“It’s a massive game and opportunity for us against a good, solid team who have shown over the last couple of seasons that you have to play well to beat them, and they have some really good strengths that they play to…”

Stellenbosch head into Wednesday’s match on the back of an 11-day trip from Polokwane to Rustenberg to Zanzibar, where the Club picked up two wins and a draw against AS Otoho, Orbit College, and Singida Black Stars, respectively.

“The first half of the league season has been a bit of a challenge, but we’ve had the opportunity to work on things and improve, which we have, and hopefully we can complete this block of four games, which also included two CAF games, with another positive result.

“Then we can look back at the calendar year, having played as many games as we have, and be satisfied with what we’ve achieved, but the match against Polokwane City is a massively important fixture for us to get through first.”

The Betway Premiership fixture between Stellenbosch FC and Polokwane City is scheduled to kick off at 19h30 at Athlone Stadium. The match will be streamed live on SuperSport OTT7. Tickets are available for purchase for R40 from Webtickets.
