Antonio van Wyk joins Austrian side SV Ried
Stellenbosch Football Club is proud to announce that the club has reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Antonio van Wyk for an undisclosed fee to Austrian club SV Ried.
The departure of Van Wyk, who graduated from Stellenbosch’s development structures after signing from the Ubuntu FC academy, is symbolic of the Club’s continued commitment to developing local talent and providing them with the opportunity to shine on the biggest stages.
“Antonio has grown from a promising young player into a mature professional during his time in Stellenbosch and he now has an incredible opportunity to take his career to Europe,” Stellenbosch FC CEO, Rob Benadie said.
“We are immensely proud to see one of our own representing the Club and the town on an international level and wish him nothing but success in Austria and beyond.”
Van Wyk progressed through the Club’s reserve ranks, where he helped Stellies win the DStv Diski Challenge and Premier League Next Generation Cup titles in 2022, and he was swiftly promoted to the first team under coach Steve Barker.
He ultimately went on to make 77 senior appearances across all competitions and helped the Club win the 2023 Carling Knockout trophy, with his performances also earning him international recognition in the form of call-ups to South Africa’s 2022 and 2024 COSAFA Cup campaigns.
Everyone at Stellenbosch FC would like to thank Van Wyk for trusting the club with his development and wish him all of the best in the exciting new chapter of his career abroad.
