Stellenbosch Football Club’s 2024-25 campaign will commence next weekend with a highly-anticipated MTN8 quarter-final encounter against TS Galaxy.

Earlier this week, the Premier Soccer League communicated the commencement dates for this season’s domestic competitions, with the MTN8 set to serve as the curtain-raiser for the newly-branded Betway Premiership, which is set to get underway in September.

The top-eight tournament will begin this coming weekend when Stellies, who ended third in the league last season, open their campaign against TS Galaxy, who ended sixth, in an exciting encounter on Sunday, 4 August at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.

Sunday’s match is scheduled to kick off at 15h00 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport. Additional information regarding ticket sales will be communicated to supporters in due course.

Last season, Steve Barker’s side reached the semi-final of the MTN8 where they fell agonizingly short of a final berth after suffering a 2-2 aggregate defeat to Orlando Pirates on the away goals rule.

A new look for the Premiership

While the MTN8 takes centre stage this coming week, the league campaign kicks off after the international break in September in the first edition of the competition under the new title sponsor, Betway.

“This is a massive boost for every lover of football in this country,” PSL chairman, Dr Ivrin Khoza said upon announcing the new multi-year sponsorship.

“Our partnership with Betway confirms our league’s standing as one of the best in the world and heralds a wonderful future for our game. Betway’s energy and enthusiasm will have an immediate impact across all facets of the game, and on behalf of the PSL, I am proud to welcome them on board as title sponsor and partner.”

Laurence Michel of Betway Africa added, “Football is a fundamental part of South African life. It really is in our blood and has been for generations. We are incredibly proud to be the title partner of the Betway Premiership.

“It further demonstrates not only our respect for the history of the league, but our vision for the development of its future. The PSL aligns with our values as a brand that commonly champions great South African success stories…”

Fixture information for the upcoming Betway Premiership season will be communicated to supporters in due course.
