Stellenbosch FC have advanced to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals following an emphatic 6-1 win over Milford FC.

Stellenbosch Football Club booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Nedbank Cup after recording the club’s biggest-ever win in the competition following a 6-1 victory over Milford FC at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Friday.

After a cautious opening to the match, captain-on-the-day Fawaaz Basadien finally opened up Milford’s back-line with a defense-splitting pass that found Man of the Match Iqraam Rayners, who in turn squared the ball into the path of Devin Titus to put Stellies into the lead.

Shortly after the half-hour mark, that lead was doubled when Anicet Oura, introduced as an injury-enforced substitute for Antionio van Wyk just minutes before, latched onto another ball from Rayners before cooly slotting the ball around opposition ‘keeper Siphamandla Hleza.

Menzi Chili then pulled on back for the hosts on the stroke of half-time, only for his effort to be immediately canceled out at the other end when Oura bagged his second of the night to restore Stellies’ two-goal lead.

That is how the score remained heading into the half-time break, although an avalanche of goals would follow almost immediately following the restart.

Andre de Jong was the catalyst of that goal glut as the New Zealand international scored twice in quick succession, first capitalising on an error from Hlezi before finishing off a well-worked team goal for his second just moments later.

With the win all-but secured, the team from the Winelands took the proverbial foot off the gas but still found time at the death to add a sixth, with substitute Mervin Boji showing his composure to complete the route late on.

The club will discover their quarter-final opponents on Monday evening when the draw takes place at 18h00 at the SuperSport studios.
