Having claimed a domestic double over Cape Town City this season, Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has revealed his desire to do the same against fellow rivals Cape Town Spurs.

Earlier this week, Stellenbosch FC retained bragging rights over Cape Town City after recording a 1-0 win at the DHL Cape Town Stadium, repeating the result and scoreline from the reverse fixture in Stellenbosch earlier in the campaign.

That result has set Steve Barker’s side up for the weekend’s encounter against Cape Town Spurs, who Stellies defeated 3-0 last year, and the coach is aiming to ensure that his side walks away with a perfect record against their Cape rivals this season.

“The plan will be to put out the best team that we believe can win the game on Saturday,” Barker said following his side’s mid-week win over Cape Town City.

“I think the win over City sets us up nicely. Having not lost or drawn will give us confidence and belief that we can play with a good and positive attitude against Spurs.

“We’ve taken six points off City and beat Spurs earlier this season, so another three points against them would make it 12 points from 12. I think that would be really, really massive so we’ve got to go out there and win the game.”
