Stellenbosch FC’s Jayden Adams and Iqraam Rayners have been called up to the provisional Bafana Bafana squad for two FIFA Series international friendly matches in Algeria later this month.

On Thursday, South Africa men’s national team coach Hugo Broos announced a provisional 32-man squad that will travel to Algeria for two friendly matches at the pilot edition for the new FIFA Series.

Included in Broos’ selection is the Stellenbosch FC duo of Jayden Adams, who recently represented Bafana Bafana at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, and Iqraam Rayners, who previously featured for South Africa at last year’s COSAFA Cup.

Bafana Bafana have been drawn alongside Algeria, Bolivia and Andorra, and Adams and Rayners will be hoping to make the final 23-man squad which is set to be announced on 11 March 2024, ahead of the squad’s departure six days later.

According to world football governing body FIFA, “The series are friendly matches that will be contested by national teams from different confederations, who don’t normally have the opportunity to play each other.

“The ultimate objective […] is to allow more international football interaction outside the traditional local footprint, making a contribution to global football development.”
