Stellies aiming to build on past wins ahead of TS Galaxy clash
The Stellenbosch FC reserve team will be looking to build on last weekend’s 6-1 thumping of Chippa United when they travel to Pretoria to take on TS Galaxy in the DStv Diski Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
Last weekend was another action-packed occasion for Stellies’ reserve side as they thumped Chippa United 6-1 at Wolfson Stadium, with Thulani Mini, Kyle Bailey, Langelihle Phili, and the Stellenbosch-born Keanan Johannesen and Tylon Smith all on the scoresheet.
That result saw the team extend their unbeaten streak to 13 matches, and assistant coach Jason Rhoda says he is happy with how the Young Maroons have been performing in recent months.
“We are delighted with this past weekend’s result, especially looking at the previous match against Orlando Pirates where I felt that we could have scored six goals then already,” Rhoda said.

“Fortunately we are just happy that everything came together against Chippa. We managed to do the hardest thing in football and that is to put the ball in the back of the net. For that there is a good buzz around the team, the boys are excited and confident.
“It’s also just nice to see the guys coming off of the bench are impacting the game positively. We’ve had some injuries, suspensions, and illness, and the people that are coming in are elevating the level. These players need to get credit for that.”
The team is set to travel to Soshanguve, Pretoria this weekend looking to get three points in their clash against the Rockets. Rhoda anticipates that this weekend’s encounter will be a tough game but they are prepared for the challenge.

“TS Galaxy away from home is never easy so we are expecting them to put up a good challenge, especially after they lost their match in Cape Town this past weekend against Cape Town City,” he added.
“We are expecting a tough challenge but it is not something we will stand back for. We have been on a good run so far and the idea is to build on that.”
Saturday’s fixture against TS Galaxy is set to kick off at 12h00 at the Giant Stadium in Soshanguve, Pretoria, and will be broadcast live on SuperSport Variety 4, channel 209.
