Adams makes AFCON debut in win over Namibia
Jayden Adams made his CAF Africa Cup of Nations debut during South Africa’s resounding 4-0 Group E win over neighbours Namibia on Sunday evening.
Adams featured as a late substitute for Bafana Bafana at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Ivory Coast as South Africa ran riot over Namibia in their second Group E encounter.
The 22-year-old’s late cameo was his fourth cap in the famous gold and green jersey, having previously represented South Africa at the 2022 COSAFA Cup on home soil. He also featured in an unofficial friendly against Lesotho earlier this month.
Prior to his introduction into the match, a brace from Themba Zwane and goals from Percy Tau and Thapelo Maseko secured Hugo Broos’ side the all-important victory, which has kept alive the country’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.

Bafana currently sit in second position on the log standings with three points from their opening two matches, one point behind Mali, level on points with third-placed Namibia, but with a superior goal difference, and two points clear of their next opponents, Tunisia.
Adams and Co. will be in action again on Wednesday evening when they take on the latter in the decisive encounter. A win for Bafana Bafana would see them progress, while a draw would require Namibia not to defeat Mali in the day’s other clash.
