Steve Barker has lauded his side’s efforts after earning a point on the road away to Chippa United on Saturday evening.

Stellenbosch FC were held to a goalless draw by Chippa United on Saturday evening in a closely contested DStv Premiership encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

“Although the scoreline was 0-0, it was a very exciting encounter in a difficult away game against Chippa United,” Stellies head coach Steve Barker reflected after the match.

“Both teams had a great desire and willingness to take the game to the opposition and created enough chances to get something out of the game, although I do believe that over the course of the the 90 minutes we created more clear-cut opportunities.

Match report: Stellies made to rue missed chances in Chippa United stalemate

“We had to repel Chippa United in the first 25 minutes when they really came out at us, but then the game settled in the last half of the first half and we got a bit more control and created some good chances.

“Then, in the second half, it turned out to be a very transitional type of game with both teams really trying their best to get something from the encounter.

“But, once again, there was magnificent effort and commitment shown from the players, who can be proud of the performance that they put in at the end of a tough week in which they traveled away to Polokwane, back to Cape Town, and then back to Gqeberha again.

“Overall, I am pleased with the clean sheet and it’s a good point to have gained away from home.”
