Barker: Stellies drawing confidence from recent results
Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has revealed that his side is drawing confidence from a recent run of victories ahead of Saturday’s DStv Premiership clash against Chippa United.
Barker’s charges have traveled to Gqeberha on the back of a four-match winning streak after recording consecutive victories over TS Galaxy, Chippa United, Polokwane City, and Richards Bay across the Carling Knockout and the league in recent weeks.
The Maroons will once again take on the challenge of the Chilli Boys at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this weekend where they will be looking for a repeat of their 2-1 cup win at the same venue late last month.
“It has been a quick turnaround [from the mid-week win over Richards Bay] but with the good result, we can go into the game against Chippa United with a lot of belief and confidence that we can win the game,” the coach said ahead of the match.
“Having played against each other recently in the cup, I’m sure they will be up to avoid another loss against us so it will be a tough encounter, but the mood in camp has been really upbeat and we’re looking forward to the challenge this weekend.
“The recent results have given us confidence but the key is always in the consistency. Four wins on the bounce is obviously a positive sign but we can’t stop there, we can’t become complacent and believe that the fifth win will just happen.
“Those previous wins have created a very good and positive vibe around the camp but we now just have to stay humble, keep working, and respect the opposition. Ultimately though, we have to put in the performance that warrants us winning the match.”
Kick-off for Saturday’s encounter is scheduled for 20h00 and the match will be broadcast live on SuperSport PSL channel 202.
