Van Wyk excited to reach MTN8 semi-finals
Scorer of the match-winning goal in the last meeting between Stellenbosch FC and Orlando Pirates, Antonio van Wyk has revealed his excitement ahead of this weekend’s MTN8 semi-final.
Stellenbosch FC will play host to Orlando Pirates in the first leg of this season’s MTN8 semi-finals, with the match scheduled to take place at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday afternoon.
The weekend’s encounter will be the second meeting between the two sides this season, with Stellies having emerged victorious on the opening day of the league season, courtesy of a goal from Antonio van Wyk.
Van Wyk took time out to speak at a media open day in Stellenbosch on Friday where he revealed his excitement at the opportunity to feature in yet another semi-final with the club.
“It’s very exciting to be at this stage of the competition,” he said. “Last season, we got into the semi-finals (of the Nedbank Cup) against Sekhukhune United and I feel like we as a club are taking a step forward in the right direction.

“We have another semi-final coming up now and I feel as though we can overcome the challenge if we have the belief and we stick together.”
Reflecting on his opening-day goal against Pirates, Van Wyk revealed he was pleased to have helped the team, and that adding to his tally was something he felt he needed to do in order to reach the next level in his career.
“Obviously it was a great feeling since it was our first goal of the season,” he added. “…In today’s football, stats are very important. I think to get to the next level, I’m going to have to put up assists and put up goals.”
