Confirmed MTN8-semi-final first-leg fixture details:
Date: Sunday, 3 September 2023
Time: 15h00 (gates open early)
Venue: Athlone Stadium, Cape Town
Tickets: R80.00 from Ticketpro (purchase your tickets)
Broadcast: SuperSport PSL 202
Meanwhile, the reverse fixture has been added to the diary for Sunday, 24 September, and will take place at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Kick-off for that match will also be at 15h00.
Speaking ahead of the first leg, Stellies head coach Steve Barker revealed that he was expecting a tough challenge but that he was hoping to draw confidence from his side’s league victory over Pirates on the opening day of the league campaign.
“It has to give us confidence,” Barker previously said. “Obviously, this will be a different sort of game and will be played home and away, so the nuances are a bit different, but we have to take confidence from beating them in the league in the first game of the season.
“It’s our second semi-final in the space of a few months and the disappointment of not reaching the Nedbank Cup final is still there, but we now have another chance to address that.
“We’re under no illusions though, Pirates are a strong team and the reigning champions of the MTN8, and they won two trophies last season. They will be a formidable opponent but we have to go in with the belief and courage that we can overcome that challenge.”
