Stellenbosch FC have a quick turnaround from Saturday’s DStv Premiership clash against SuperSport United with another highly anticipated mid-week encounter against Kaizer Chiefs.
Stellenbosch will play host to Kaizer Chiefs at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Wednesday, 30 August 2023, where the club will be looking to get back to winning ways following the weekend’s 2-1 league defeat at the hands of SuperSport United.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 19h30 and tickets are on sale and available to purchase for R80.00 from Ticketpro and SPAR outlets. Gates open two hours before kick-off and supporters can also buy their tickets here.
Wednesday’s much-anticipated encounter is the first of two fixtures against Soweto opponents this week, with an MTN8 semi-final against Orlando Pirates looming at the weekend, and coach Steve Barker revealed that it is privilege to be able to play host to two matches of such magnitude.
“It’s a very big week. I have told the players that it’s a privilege to have a week like this,” Barker said. “It’s something that we want, we want to be playing in semi-finals, and we want to be playing in weeks like this against the big teams.
“Worldwide they play three matches in a week and we have to look forward to it, and see it as a privilege to be able to host two big clubs in South African football within three days at Athlone. Hopefully, the fans come out in their numbers.
“We will be competitive. There’s no reason we can’t believe that we can get a positive result against Chiefs on Wednesday and then back that up with another positive result against Pirates on the weekend.”
Following the weekend’s results, Stellenbosch FC occupy seventh position in the DStv Premiership standings with six points from their opening four matches, while Chiefs climbed to eleventh after recording their first win of the season against AmaZulu on Saturday.
