Man of the Match Iqraam Rayners opened his goalscoring account for South Africa in Bafana Bafana’s COSAFA Cup win over Botswana on Saturday.

Stellenbosch FC’s Iqraam Rayners and Sibongiseni Mthethwa were both in action as South Africa recorded a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Botswana in their 2023 COSAFA Cup Group A encounter.

Rayners, who made his debut in Bafana Bafana’s midweek draw against Namibia, was instrumental in helping the national team turn the tie around after scoring the equalising goal with just over an hour played.

The 27-year-old stepped up from the penalty spot after teammate Victor Letsoalo was fouled in the box and expertly dispatched his spot-kick to level matters, and open his account on the international stage.

Both he and Mthethwa, who enjoyed a typically strong outing as well, could be in action again next week when South Africa take on eSwatini in their final group stage encounter on Tuesday, 11 July 2023.
