Makhubu: It’s a great feeling to score my first Stellenbosch goal
Wonderboy Makhubu is hoping to add even more goals to his name after opening his account for Stellenbosch FC.
Makhubu, who joined Stellenbosch from Sekhukhune United in January, scored his first goal for the Club during Friday’s 1-1 Betway Premiership draw against TS Galaxy when he latched on to a pinpoint cross from Devin Titus to net the equaliser.
“It felt really great to score my first goal for Stellenbosch, but the most important thing was to help the team get a point,” the 29-year-old said after the match.

Makhubu’s clinical header came in his sixth appearance for the Maroons across all competitions, but he reveals that he always remained confident despite mounting pressure for him to open his account.
“From the first minute, and in fact in every game, I have the belief that I am going to score. I approach every single move, from when it starts at the back with the build-up play, with the mindset that it’s going to end with me putting the ball in the net.

“So, when it went out wide, I instinctively moved to the box expecting the cross. Devin saw me, and when it came, I did a short prayer to say, ‘Eish, can I please score this one!’ because I had played a few games for the Club without scoring.
“Of course, bit by bit, that puts a person under more pressure, but I am a striker and it’s my job to score goals, so I was very happy to open my account. That has boosted my confidence a lot, so hopefully, going forward, even more goals will come.”
