Stellies claim famous come-from-behind win over Kaizer Chiefs
Stellenbosch FC recorded a third win of the season over Kaizer Chiefs after claiming a famous 2-1 come-from-behind victory at FNB Stadium.
The team from the Cape Winelands earned a much-needed three points on Tuesday after coming from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in their Betway Premiership encounter.
Hosts Kaizer Chiefs started the match stronger and came close to opening the scoring in the ninth minute when former Stellenbosch forward Ashley du Preez found the back of the net, only to see his effort ruled out on a tight offside call.
The Amakhosi continued to apply pressure and forced Stellies skipper and goalkeeper Sage Stephens into making key saves to deny Ethan Chislett and Du Preez, the latter of whom put his follow-up wide with the goal gaping.
That pressure would pay off, however, as Flavio da Silva opened the scoring for the Soweto side, somewhat fortuitously directing the ball goalwards off his chest following a deflection from Mosa Lebusa.

That was how the score remained as the teams reached half-time, but it was apparent from the swing of momentum in the second stanza that coach Gavin Hunt’s team talk in the dressing room had made an immediate impact.
Just six minutes following the restart, Langelihle Phili latched onto a ball from Devin Titus and made no mistake to score his ninth goal of the season and fire the Maroons level on the night.
Both teams continued to push forward in search of a winner, and Henri Stanic was called upon to make a strong goal-line clearance, but it was the team from the Winelands who were in the ascendancy and who found the breakthrough late on.
Just 20 days after scoring the match-winning goal against Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup, Titus emerged as the hero once again with a brilliant first-time finish beyond the reach of Brandon Petersen.
The result saw Stellenbosch climb two places to 11th in the Betway Premiership standings ahead of their next encounter agianst AmaZulu at Danie Craven Stadium on Friday evening.
