Muzomuhle Khanyi has revealed his delight after scoring his first goal for Stellenbosch FC.

Khanyi, who arrived in Stellenbosch from Hungry Lions at the start of the season, scored his first goal for the Club on Wednesday evening when he delivered the match-winning strike in a 4-3 Betway Premiership victory over Golden Arrows.

Having come on as a second-half substitute, the 26-year-old showed adept off-the-ball movement to latch on to Ibraheem Jabaar’s pass before finishing with a delicate touch to earn Stellies the three points.

“It’s such a good feeling to score my first goal for Stellenbosch FC and to make an impact like that off the bench,” Khanyi said after the match.

“I think it is one of the things I will always be proud of, to come on as a sub and make that impact like that. It was amazing to score my first goal, and to do it at home as well, so I am very happy.

“We’ve been in a tough space where we couldn’t score in the past few games, but last night’s game was one of those where us as the strikers saw the opportunity and took the chances on offer.

“We’re obviously not happy to have conceded three goals at home, but I’m happy that we were able to score as many as we did and to get the win.”

Khanyi joined Stellenbosch on the back of an impressive season with Hungry Lions in the National First Division, where he ended the 2024-25 campaign as the league’s leading goalscorer.

“There was pressure to have joined the club as the top goalscorer in the NFD, and I arrived with a lot of expectation,” he admits.

“I’m learning from the guys around me, like Andre De Jong, Bradley Mojela – there are a lot of guys here I can learn from – and they push me every day at training.

“It’s not always going to be easy, but I have to show my character and help the team score more goals, because that’s what I am here to do.

“We showed that character collectively against Arrows, and that will be a motivation for us in the upcoming games, because we showed what we are capable of in terms of scoring goals.”
