Stellenbosch FC are set to host Lamontville Golden Arrows at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday in a highly anticipated Betway Premiership encounter.

Having returned from a continental clash against 15 de Agosto de Akonibe in Equatorial Guinea over the weekend, Stellenbosch FC head straight back into domestic action when they welcome Golden Arrows to Cape Town on Wednesday evening.

The match will be played away from Stellies’ traditional home at Danie Craven Stadium due to the venue currently undergoing renovations in preparation for the upcoming 2026 FISU World University Championship Rugby Sevens.

The mid-week encounter will be the 13th meeting between Stellenbosch and Arrows across all competitions. The team from the Cape Winelands emerged 3-0 winners in the most recent clash in May, courtesy of goals from Devin Titus, Lesiba Nku, and Thabo Moloisane.

Stellies hold the advantage in terms of the head-to-head record against Abafana Bes’thende, with Steve Barker’s charges having won five and drawn five of the previous 12 ties, losing just twice during that period.

The Maroons currently occupy fiftheenth in the Betway Premiership standings after a difficult start to the campaign, but are unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions, having also kept four consecutive clean sheets.

Indeed, it is at the other end of the pitch where Stellenbosch have struggled after scoring just nine goals in 14 games this season, and Barker revealed that this is an area his side are working hard on to improve.

“It’s always important that you don’t concede. Keeping clean sheets is key to winning football matches, but we need to still continue working on converting more of the opportunities that we are creating, and in the final third execution and decision-making,” he said after Saturday’s continental clash.
