Steve Barker has described Sunday’s match against Lunda Sul as a must-win encounter as Stellenbosch FC look to kick-start their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Stellenbosch FC head into Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash in Luanda, Angola aiming to open their account on the continental stage after suffering back-to-back defeats to Stade Malien and RS Berkane in their opening two group stage matches.

The team from the Cape Winelands take on the challenge of a Lunda Sul side also seeking their first win, and coach Steve Barker is aware of the significance riding on his side recording a positive result.

“We see this as a privilege to be able to compete on the continent and we’re very excited to be in Angola and playing against Lunda Sul,” Barker said ahead of the match.

“It’s a very important game and I think it is a must-win situation for both teams. We both need to get maximum points, but we have prepared well, we’ve analysed our opposition, and we know what we can expect.

“…Both of us have a difficult start to the campaign, but we’ve trained really well and got a feel for the field, so we’re up for the match.

“In my opinion, it’s a bit of a cup final for both teams and if we want to finish in the top two to advance to the knockout stages, it’s important for us to get a positive result.”

The CAF Confederation Cup Group B encounter between Stellenbosch FC and Lunda Sul kicks off at 14h00 (15h00 SAST) at the Estádio Nacional 11 de Novembro and will be broadcast live on SABC Sport and SuperSport 208.
