Stellenbosch-born defender Tylon Smith has signed his first professional contract with the Club.

Hailing from Jamestown, Stellenbosch, local boy Tylon Smith is a graduate of the Stellenbosch FC academy and played a starring role in the Club’s triumphs at the Engen Knockout, Engen Champ of Champs, and DStv Diski Challenge last season.

His youth and reserve team performances also earned him international recognition with a call-up to the South Africa U-20 national team, where he recently helped the country win the U-20 COSAFA U-20 championship.

At the competition, Smith was named Man of the Match in the final as hosts South Africa recorded a 2-0 win over Zambia, and he was also later named in the Team of the Tournament.

He has since been permanently promoted to the first team, where he previously featured as an unused substitute during Stellenbosch’s cup encounter against Milford FC last season, and the recent CAF Confederation Cup ties against Nsingizini Hotspurs and AS Vita.

“I am incredibly happy and proud to have signed my first professional contract with Stellenbosch FC,” Smith said after putting pen to paper.

“It wasn’t an easy journey to get to this point, but it crowns an incredible year for me as a 19-year-old after getting promoted and having had the opportunity to represent South Africa at the U-20 COSAFA championships.

“The next step for me is to help the first team, hopefully to win more trophies, and I can promise the Club and our supporters that I will show the hard work, winning mentality, and fighting spirit that is needed to succeed at Stellenbosch FC.”
